Niklas Kullström has lived in Japan, Iceland, United Kingdom, Latvia and Russia, his documentary “Say Hello in Slovio” has been screened at the Cannes Film Festival and was awarded at the Helsinki Short Film Festival.
In 2016 he produced, edited and filmed the In 2016 comic short film “The Dijon-Story”, directed by Mikko Myllylahti. He has also had a long collaboration with Serbian director and producer Boris Mitić in his documentary “In Praise of Nothing”, which premiered in Locarno in 2017. Kulltröm also works as a producer, photographer and teacher.
“Eastern Memories” is his first documentary as a director.
It is an unexpected travel movie in the Far East between Mongolia and Japan. Constantly intervening in the past and present in a visually stunning journey of adventure and exploration, love and death, conspiracies and the fall of nations. A story told by a dead Finn from the far north.
It is also the travel story of the Finnish linguist and diplomat, G.J. Ramstedt within the golden age of the world of beliefs and traditions of the late nineteenth century, a world today replaced by ideologies and market economy. He witnesses the events of the last hundred years, and reminds us why we are here now.
Both debut as directors with the documentary Eastern Memories that will be presented in the Finnish documentary Tour Luz from the dark.

Niklas Kullstrom, ha vivido en Japón, Islandia, Reino Unido, Latvia y Rusia, su documental “Say Hello in Slovio” ha sido proyectado en el Festival de Cine de Cannes y fue premiado en el Festival de Cortometrajes de Helsinki. En 2016 produjo, editó y filmó el En 2016 cortometraje cómico “The Dijon-Story”, dirigida por Mikko Myllylahti. También ha tenido una larga colaboración con el director y productor serbio, Boris Mitić, en su documental “In Praise of Nothing”, que se estrenó en Locarno en 2017. Kulltröm también trabaja como productor, fotógrafo y maestro. “Eastern Memories” es su primer documental como director.
Niklas Kullström es un productor, director, editor y artista de medios. Tiene una licenciatura en estética y una maestría en fotografía de bellas artes. Martti Kaartinen es un cineasta y guionista. Ha actuado como protagonista en varios cortometrajes exitosos y actualmente está involucrado en varios proyectos fílmicos como director, actor y escritor.
Ambos debutan como directores con el documental Eastern Memories que se presentará en el Tour de documental finlandés Luz desde la oscuridad.
Eastern Memories es una inesperada película de viaje dentro del lejano oriente entre Mongolia y Japón. Constantemente interviniendo en el pasado y el presente en visualmente impactante viaje de aventuras y exploración, amor y muerte, conspiraciones y la caída de naciones. Una historia contada por un finlandés muerto del lejano norte.
Es también la historia del viaje del lingüista y diplomático finlandés, G.J. Ramstedt dentro de la edad de oro del mundo de creencias y tradiciones de finales del siglo XIX, un mundo hoy reemplazado por ideologías y economía de mercado. Él atestigua los eventos de los últimos cien años, y nos recuerda por qué estamos aquí ahora.
