Rodney Rascona Wins Gold at the Deauville Film Awards

We are thrilled to announce that Director Rodney Rascona was honoured with the Deauville Green Awards in Normandy, France on the ‘Handicap and Humanitarian’ Gold award!

The jury unanimously awarded Rascona for his work on the Food for the Hungry (FH) and USAID awareness raising film CONGO.

Congo is a deeply moving film that highlights the daily challenges faced by the people of Congo who live in one of the bloodiest conflicts since WW2. The film aims to help implement a strategic programme to reduce chronic food insecurity among 700,000 households in Katanga province.

Now in its fourth year, the Deauville Film Festival Green Awards, which receive nearly 300 entries from over 30 countries, are designed to recognise excellence in the field of using audiovisual productions to promote sustainable development and ecology. This year’s win follows on from Rascona’s 2013 Grand Prix award for Black Inside, a film campaign focusing on the plight of women and children who suffer from the toxic smoke created by cooking over an open fire.

Rodney said: “Congo was created to help improve the lives of 800,000 people trying to survive in one of the most difficult places on earth. It’s not everyday that your film can affect so many people’s lives and the production team at Squire helped to make this happen.”

Squire’s Executive Producer, Phil Tidy, said: “Rodney’s second Deauville Green award marks him out as an unrivalled humanitarian film director – a great complement to his commercial film and photography work. We’re incredibly proud to have him as part of our diverse roster. Well done Rodney!”

Congo sound + VO was mixed and designed by Jamie Roden of Goldcrest FIlms –whom always are giving more than they receive – just no one better.

Congratulations to all involved!
