Camilla de Maffei graduated in Philosophy with a thesis in Aesthetics about the representation of the invisible in Spiritualist Photography. At the same time she specialized in photojournalism.

She has been working as a freelance photographer in many countries and setting focus since 2009 in the area of the Balkans about silenced social issues in Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia — among others.

In parallel she has developed several projects on the women’s world, investigating the concepts of identity, sexuality, freedom and solitude.

She has been collaborating with GENERA (association in defense of women rights based in Barcelona), LLOC DE LA DONA (Center aimed at women in situations of social exclusion).

She contributes with El Periodico de Catalunya, Metropolis and Osservatorio Sui Balcani, among others.

In 2010 she founds PHACTOLAB, a creative photographic laboratory where she nowadays coordinates and is the tutorship of long term documentary projects. In 2012 she opened El Observatorio.
